The orginal idea for a wedding directory came about in 2003 when Dave and his fiancee were trying to plan their dream wedding in Banff, Alberta. Frustrated by the lack of good web-based resources, Dave started planning out Canada Wedding Directory.
Dave drew on his experience as webmaster with World Wide Learn, the largest directory of online learning in the world, and created Canada Wedding Directory with one simple misson: to be the most complete resource of wedding suppliers, vendors and resources in Canada on the Web.
BluePlanetWedding.com is the rebranding and relaunch of CanadaWeddingDirectory.ca. BluePlanetWedding.com reflects Dave's long-time commitment to the environment, social activism and doing the right thing.

Everyone at BluePlanetWedding.com is committed to living an environmentally-friendly lifestyle. We are always finding ways to be more eco-friendly, and everyone, personally and professionally, is making lifestyle choices that are greener and friendlier. I, Dave Walker, the founder of the site, am making several personal commitments to live a more environmentally friendly lifestyle.
- BluePlanetWedding.com is run from everyone’s homes, saving on commuting and travel. Since the team is spread all across Canada, we communicate online using tools like wikis, internal blogs, email, BaseCamp and more.
- 100% of the power for BluePlanetWedding.com's office (and my home) in Calgary comes from Greenmax, ENMAX Energy’s environmental program.
- Our carbon credits offset 5 tonnes of CO2 for 2007.
- My family is eating about 30% less meat than in the past year, and I have resolved for 2008 to eat meat from organic sources as much as possible.
- When needed, I am replacing as many parts in my wardrobe as possible with eco-friendly alternatives using organic cotton, hemp and other fabrics.
- We are choosing more sustainable options in all aspects of our life, from hobbies to home maintenance.
- We’re making constant small changes to our lifestyle, personally and professionally, to increase our sustainability and reduce our environmental impact.
BluePlanetWedding.com tries to make our business practices as fair and equitable as possible. From our pricing to our communication, we conduct our business honestly and clearly. If you think we are doing things in an unclear, unethical or shady manner, please let us know so we can improve our business practices.
Currently, the directory is open to all business with a special emphasis on green and ethical businesses. As the number of green vendors grow, I will be removing all other vendors from the category so we can put a better focus on the eco-friendly businesses.

We are an unabashedly Canadian company (despite the spelling of 'favor' and 'color' on the web site) - we have visitors from and do business with people and companies from around the world, but at the end of the day, we are proudly Canadian. We respect and appreciate our American and international neighbours, and wish the best for all people around the world.
