We did this for our wedding, and raised $3k for 2 charities - one to help build a school in Africa, and the other went to help an inner city mission in our hometown. I really didn;t miss the gifts at all.

These are some great ideas. If more people did that, we might all be in a better place. I agree with the comment above- I think it would be awesome if vendors would pitch in as well. Make sure you add that to your interview questions! Excellent post!

I think that this is such a great idea. Weddings are about bringing two people together. What a great way to bring the whole community together and supporting those people and organizations in need.
